Question by marym1018: How do you remove mineral deposits from humidifiers?

We have two warm mist humidifiers, after running them a couple of times, they build up this scaly calcium type stuff on the inside of the heating element that boils that water. I’ve tried using vinegar, but it didn’t really do the trick. I want something that rinses clean and is perferably non toxic, seeing as how we use them to evaporate water directly into our air. Anyone know how to get rid of this stuff easier than scrubbing it with a tooth brush? And, is it dangerous or toxic itself?

There is a product called Kaboom that cleans cacium deposits without the use of harsh chemicals. Maybe that will work.
